A Peek Inside my Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Party!
HAI AND MERRY ALMOST CHRISTMAS!!
I really reaaally love the holidays (baking, decorating, getting and giving presents- this holiday was basically made for me) but I ended up moving into my first apartment right at the beginning of December which means this holiday season has been a crazy one! I haven't been able to share many of my Christmas DIY's with you this year, but I am bringing you a sneak peek into what is also pretty much another holiday during the month of December...
The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
To give you a little summary of my feelings on the VS Fashion Show- I used to hate it. Watching tall graceful women glide down a runway would only make me jealous that my short little legs would never be able to compete, and I couldn't help but compare myself to everyone I saw. This year, however, I decided to reclaim the VS Fashion Show and make it my own. Anyone who knows me knows that I love to throw all kinds of parties WITH THE EXCEPTION OF PITY PARTIES. No one wants to go to a pity party, they literally suck. SOOOO I reached out to some of my closest friends, put all my crafting and baking skills to the test, and decided to turn the VS Fashion Show viewing into the best party ever. Who wants to sit at home depressed and eating a tub of Ben and Jerry's when you can dress up like an angel, hang out with friends, eat delish food, and have an awesome time? Not me, that's for sure.
So with that little description aside, welcome to the inside peek of my VS Fashion Show Party. And yes, this will become a yearly tradition.
What party is complete without food? I always gravitate towards the food table (naturally) so I wanted to make sure there was lots of delicious food available- and yes it just haaaad to be pink.
It's a universally known fact- no party is complete without cake. I decided to make a strawberry sponge cake with vanilla buttercream, and I decorated the outside with fondant to look like a little Victoria's Secret bag. The makeup pieces were all made out of fondant too, and I'm happy to say that the eyeshadow palette was delicious.
Everyone knows the iconic Victoria's Secret Fashion robe, but did you know they cost $148 EACH?! I really wanted the robes but there was no way I could afford many robes at that price, so I decided to make my own! Thankfully, years of crafting and painting came in handy with this one. I ordered a bunch of plain silk robes from Robemart.com and picked up some pink fabric paint from Jo-Ann Fabrics. About 4 hours and fourteen paintbrushes later, these babies were ready to be rocked by my party guests.
The Party Favors
One of the great things about being a crafter is that you tend to know other crafty and creative people, so I was ecstatic that my homegirl Kaylee was down to help me throw this party. Kaylee paints the coolest glasses you could ever imagine so I was over the moon when she handpainted these AMAZING glasses for the party!! They were a huge hit with all of the guests and such a cute favor for everyone to take home. You can check out some more of Kaylee's incredible work on her Facebook page right here and you can follow her biz account on IG here too! I love supporting fellow GirlBosses, and Kaylee is such a giving person with a wonderful story behind her company so go check out her stuff. Okay sorry I just love bragging about my creative friends. Check out some of the pics of her adorable VS glasses below!
The Selfie Light
Okay not gonna lie this was one of my favorite parts of the night- who doesn't love a good selfie light?! Seen as the VS Fashion Show involves gorg models with killer lighting, I figured I'd get us some awesome lighting too! The selfie light was a huge hit and made all of our snaps and selfies look even more bomb than usual.
Okay I know this is what most of you came for- well at least the people that have seen me teasing these wings on my snapchat story for the past month. I handmade wings for every party guest so that we could all feel like the badass angels we are, and I loved seeing everyone's reactions to their wings! Some of the wings were gold or silver dipped, others were all black or completely colorful, and each and every person totally rocked their custom wings. This may be the closest we ever get to being Victoria's Secret angels, and I'm totally content with that because I felt like a million bucks in them.
**Side note: we kept knocking things over and hitting each other with our wings, I honestly don't know how you ladies do it. Looking at you, Adriana Lima.
Parties are the worst if you don't have the right people to enjoy them with- that's just like, the rules of feminism. Seriously, we've all been to one of those parties where the people kind of just suck and you have to pretend you're having the most interesting convo in the world on your phone when in reality your filtering future IG pics- I get it, we've all been there. With that being said, I am so thankful to have so many fun, awesome, creative, wonderful people who are always game when I send out a Facebook message at 1 AM saying I want to throw a themed party. I hope you all find friends like this, and if you haven't yet hit me up because you're invited to our next party. For real though, we're super inclusive, hmu betches.
And there you have it ladies and gents- the peek inside my Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Party! I had so much fun, and my robe is currently hanging in my closet as a reminder that we can all be angels. I know I knoooow that's super corny, but I think we could all do with a little reminding sometimes. It's easy to compare ourselves to these models, but always remember- the only type of party you shouldn't throw is a pity party.
Until next time and Merry ChristmYAAAS
